Most product distribution in the United Kingdom is transported by road; this requires the need for central warehousing hubs where the product which usually palletised is loaded and unloaded by forklift trucks.
The movement of forklift trucks around warehouses causes rubber tyre dust, this coupled with general dust being blown in through the warehouse doors can create an environmental dust hazard and leave dust on the product, particularly a problem in the food industries.
Many times G.P. Cleaners have been presented with this problem to solve – the general answer is to keep the dust levels in the warehouse down to an acceptable level – but how? One answer is a pedestrian or ride-on vacuum sweeper, sometimes with on board vacuums and wandering hoses for cleaning racking and the tops of pallets.
In one particular situation a broom was the customers chosen way of cleaning the warehouse floor, but the dust levels were causing problems, G.P. Cleaners after carrying out a detailed site survey, concluded that a ride-on vacuum sweeper would cure there problem.
The ride-on vacuum sweeper chosen in this instance used the “dustpan and brush” principle where a roller brush sweeps the dirt forwards into a container, filtering the dusty air at the same time, sweepers can also use the “overthrow principle” where a roller brush rotates at high speed and throws the debris up and back into a trailing container.
G.P. Cleaners were ask to supply a vacuum sweeper on a long term hire agreement and after comprehensive operator training the customer’s dusty problem was soon under control.
